Volunteer Programs
Volunteers are an important and valued part of the E-Team. We are fortunate to have these dedicated community members who work with us:
Minda Morton - Math to Build On
MTBO is specifically designed to augment the DRCI welding program and gives student welders the skill needed to assess volume, change dimensions and sizes of projects they work on. This class meets twice a week.
Bryn Hazell & Evelyn Doherty - Center For Compassionate Living

Bryn facilitates a Non-Violent Communications 8 week course where students learn to improve their compassionate communication skills, deepen their self-understanding, and enrich their relationships. This class currently has 22 students enrolled, is an ongoing workshop, and includes practice sessions where the students have opportunity to practice what they have learned. So far, 110 inmates have been trained, including education tutors.
John Martin & John Mounts - The Nature of Words
COCC's Deer Ridge Correctional Institution Education Department hosts The Nature of Words writing workshops where inmates learn to write poetry, participate in a playwriting workshops, and are able to submit entries for poetry and short story contests. The Nature of Words also publishes Words Without Walls in which students present their work after participating in one of the creative writing programs. This fall, 16 students are enrolled in a poetry writing class.
