Nursing Program Admissions Testing

Selective Admissions Testing Required for COCC's Nursing Program: TEAS-V®

About the test
COCC uses the Test of Essential Academic Skills TEAS-V® produced by Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC as part of the nursing program selection process. This test is designed to measure a candidate's likelihood of success in a college nursing program by measuring achievement in critical academic skills in Reading, Math, Science, and English. The test is administered online on the COCC Campus, and results are available immediately at the conclusion of the test.

Additional information on the TEAS-V® exam is available in the ATI TEAS-V® informational material and on the ATI web site https://www.atitesting.com/Solutions/PreNursingSchool/TEAS.aspx.

What should I do to prepare for the TEAS-V®?
Students should not take the TEAS-V test until they are nearing completion of their nursing prerequisite coursework.

The company that produces the test sells a TEAS-V® Study Manual ($42) and a TEAS-V® Study Package ($85) which are available in the COCC Bookstore or by direct order from ATI. Reserve copies are also available at the Circulation Desk in the COCC Library. See https://www.atitesting.com/Solutions/PreNursingSchool/TEAS.aspx for ordering information.

More information about how COCC administers the test and the rules of the test are located on the TEAS Exam Rules handout that is provided at the time of your reservation and on the day of the test.

Can I take the TEAS-V® more than once?
COCC allows students to take the TEAS-V® test up to two times in a student's lifetime, and the nursing selection process will use the highest score. There must be at minimum of 90 days between tests. Only test scores from tests given at COCC will be considered.

Students who take the test for the second time need to be able to log in to their ATI testing account prior to arriving at the test.

How do I sign up to take the TEAS-V®?
Currently or previously admitted COCC students who have taken at least one class at COCC within the last year can make reservations for the TEAS-V® exam in person in Admissions and Records at the Boyle Education Center or by phone (541-383-7229). Students who have not taken a class at COCC within the last year will be required to update their COCC application prior to scheduling their TEAS exam. Your application can be updated at Returning COCC Student Application. (You will not be charged a new application fee.)

Payment of the non-refundable $40 test fee is required at the time of reservation. Students with accommodated testing needs please see accommodated testing needs section above for instructions.

Appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis and it is possible that appointment times will fill. Students should carefully plan their test dates and reserve their spot at the earliest opportunity.

Students who are planning to take the test for the second time should carefully plan their dates (see table above) and schedule their test as early as possible.

What if I am not admitted to COCC but would like to use the test for another school?
COCC administers the TEAS-V® exam to support applicants to COCC's nursing program. Students must be admitted to COCC to take the test, so you may use our test but do need to complete the COCC Admissions Application.  You will be eligible to reserve a TEAS test appointment after your COCC application has been pocessed, usually within 3 business days.

COCC does not provide TEAS-V® test results to other institutions. Test scores will need to be requested directly from ATI Testing.

What do I need to know about the day of the test?
Students must bring a picture ID to the test session, will need to provide their COCC Id Number, and will need to be able to log in to their COCC network account (help is available on the web). Please note: absolutely no other items will be allowed in the test room. This includes handbags, backpacks, cell phones, or other items. The test does not allow nor require calculators. A copy of the testing rules that are handed out the day of the test is available.

You should arrive 15 minutes early for the test. Students arriving late to the test will not be allowed to test on this day and will not be refunded their test fee.
