Graduation
What is the difference between graduation and commencement?
Graduation is an awarding of a certificate or degree once a student has satisfied all certificate or degree requirements as verified by the Admissions & Records Office.
Commencement is a ceremony that allows students, family and friends to celebrate in the student's academic accomplishments. Participation in the ceremony does not mean the student has graduated and students do not receive their certificate or diploma that day.

Graduation
Submit an Application for Certificate/Degree when you are within two terms of completing ALL program requirements. Applications are required in order for a certificate/degree to be awarded. Once your Application for Certificate/Degree has been evaluated, a response will be sent to your COCC email account notifying you of your eligibility to graduate.
- Multiple/concurrent certificates/degrees require separate applications for each. You must meet ALL program requirements for each program and must have a difference of 15 certificate/degree applicable credits between each set of requirements.
Commencement Ceremony
If you are graduating in the current academic year (fall, winter, spring or summer term), you are eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony.
"When will my Certificate/Degree be awarded?"
Please allow approximately 4-6 weeks after end of your final term to be awarded your certificate/degree. All communication regarding awarding of certificates/degrees will be sent to your COCC email account. Certificates/Diplomas will be mailed approximately 4 weeks later. COCC sends certificates/diplomas to the mailing address active on your student services account.
- Official transcripts must be on file in the Admissions & Records office to earn a certificate/degree using transfer coursework.
